Country Stars Supporting Tornado, Flood Victims In South, Midwest
Alabama is among the many country artists encouraging people to help as residents across the South and Midwest put their lives back together following a rash of severe storms this spring. During Thursday night's "Music Builds: CMT Disaster Relief Concert," Randy Owen shared how the April 27th tornado outbreak affected his group personally as he introduced their performance of "My Home's In Alabama." The music-filled telethon also featured performances from such stars as Hank Williams Jr., Keith Urban, Sara Evans, and Lady Antebellum, while Urban, Lady A., Taylor Swift, and Tim McGraw made appeals for support. President Obama also contributed a message urging Americans to reach out to those in need. Clint Black, Darryl Worley, Kellie Pickler, Montgomery Gentry, and Phil Vassar were some of the singers staffing the phones and taking pledges. Money raised through the event will go to the American Red Cross. The "Music Builds: CMT Disaster Relief Concert" aired live on CMT and CMT.com. The telethon will be rebroadcast on CNN's HLN on Sunday at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.
