Project Runway Season 5 Season Finale Part 2

Project Runway Season 5 Season Finale Part 2Who can believe that the season has come to an end? It seems like only yesterday the season kicked off and we were introduced to the designers. But the season has come to an end and we have a winner. Congratulations Leanne.

I have to admit that I was hoping that Leanne would win, not only because she is a likeable person, but because of all the designers, she seems to be the most creative and the most refined and sophisticated. Her collection was amazing. It showed a very unique perspective and her ability to explore a theme that was uniquely her own. It was a beautiful collection and I think her win was justly deserved.

Leanne’s theme was based on the movement of water and waves. Every one of her looks was original and reflected her theme. The collection was cohesive and exciting, and was a completely new perspective that we haven’t seen yet. It was really great.

I thought Korto also did an awesome job, and I wouldn’t have been surprised if she had won. She created a collection and that definitely reflected her perspective while at the same time appealing to a very large audience. The story Korto was telling was all in the silhouettes of her garments. Her collection definitely pointed to her African heritage without being heavy handed or looking like costumes. Her collection was wonderful, and I have the feeling that we will see more of Korto.

Kenley was the one designer who really surprised me, but not in a good way. First of all a few of her designs really looked like the work of other designers. To defend her designs, Kenley again claimed that she doesn’t look at the work of other designers, but that answer fell flat and Michael Kors correctly told her that she has to look at what other designers are doing. A point to which, Kenley finally conceded. I do believe that if Kenley does study the work of other designers while continuing to explore her own creativity she will eventually be a great designer.

The big surprise of the night was that Tim Gunn was the guest judge for the night. A role I can’t imagine he was very comfortable with. Tim has always been a mentor only and making him a judge put him in a position which could have compromised his objectivity. But Tim Gunn is a class act. And I can’t think of anyone who could have made the transition from mentor to judge in the non-biased way Tim did.

So the season is over. I’m still not sure what I’m going to do on Wednesday nights. Project Runway has become a staple of the week. And now that it's over I’m not sure what will fill that void. At least we’ll still get a week or two of reruns. In closing, it was another great season from what might be the best show on TV!
