Summer Men’s Fashion Tips for Father’s Day

Between spending time at the office, having fun with the kids, and worrying about how to pay bills and mortgages on homes, fashion may not be very high on many fathers’ lists of priorities. However, here are some tips to make sure that you, your husband or boyfriend, or your own dad will look great this Father’s Day.

Summer shoes tend to be a sticky issue for many men, and a sandal that is both stylish and functional is hard to find. Many men opt for whatever is the most comfortable, functional, and affordable, which often eclipses the more fashionable choices. Chunky, thick-soled sandals with water-repellant materials and other extra features more often than not look out of place outside of a hiking trail or a shower stall. Also, never wear socks with sandals – this look doesn’t work for anyone. Instead, opt for a thin but sturdy-soled flip-flip with a thick strap or crisscrossing straps.

Another pressing issue: shorts. Whether at the grocery store or the playground, most people have probably seen men, fathers or otherwise, in every unflattering pair of shorts imaginable. However, you do not need to be among these offenders. Ripped shorts, particularly jean shorts, usually scream that they are ready to be used as rags for washing the car, not to be worn in public. The more loose threads that hang down, the more they are ready to be thrown out. Instead, opt for a clean-cut short in khaki or some other neutral color. They go with anything, and cargo pockets are good when you are out with the kids and need to store small toys, candy, and other items.

Be sure to stock up on plenty of well-fitting clothes. Buying shirts a size or two larger than your own not only tends to look sloppy, but can also make men who are larger or think that they are overweight look bigger than they actually are. Look at the size charts before buying your T-shirts in bulk; shirts do not have to be tight or uncomfortable to fit well and look good. A great pair of jeans for cooler summer nights also goes a long way. If you have the money, splurge on one midrange or expensive pair of jeans.

Warm weather brings with it plenty of barbecues and plenty of opportunities to spill things on your clothes. For emergency stain fighting on the go, Tide pens work well. Just open the pen and press down to apply a small amount of soap to the stain. Do not rub too hard (you could wear out the fabric), and the stain should come out. The sooner you do this, the better it will work, since the pen does not work on set-in stains. Once the wet spot dries, your problem is solved and you can go on with your life.

Father’s Day is a day for summer fun and time spent with family. Hopefully you can pick up some fashion tips and not only have warm-weather fun on June 21, but also look great in the process.
