If you want to amplify your iPod tunes with a sound dock, do yourself a favor: compare before you buy. Here a few of the most popular models:
iHome iH5 $99.95 One of the cheapest speakers on the market, iHome iH5 boasts a clock, radio, and sound dock, making it a bestseller during the 2005 holiday.
Want superb quality? Keep looking. Want something for a small area, like a bedroom or bathroom? This is it.
Sonic Impact i-F2 Speaker $149.95 The compact iFusion seems like a winner priced at $150. But don’t be misled; it’s one of the worst speakers on the market in terms of sound quality. A tin can will produce better sound. However, it’s redeemed by a protective case that saves your iPod from harm while you travel.
Altec Lansing inMotion iM9 Portable Audio System $199.95 Though lacking in appearance, this player can be deceptive. Give this little guy a chance, and you’ll be amazed at the sound quality. Equipped with a backpack for easy travel, this is the best player you can by for $200. If you’re bound by a budget, but looking for the best buy, then look no further.
iPod Hi-Fi $349 Bose came out with a high-end sound dock that has sold incredibly well. Not to be outdone, Apple responded with iPod Hi-Fi.
The winner? That depends on who you ask. Both fill the room with incredibly rich sound. However, when the volume is increased on both, Apple comes out on top. The Hi-Fi’s never wavers or distorts, whereas the Bose fails the volume test miserably.
Keep in mind, if you’re in the market for a complete home stereo system, then none of these systems should be considered. iPod sound docks are meant to fill relatively small spaces. Bring your iPod into the store to test them before you buy. |
