Fresh Cut Christmas By: Brian Campbell |
| |
George Strait’s Fresh Cut Christmas is everything you could ask for in a Christmas record. His vocals are incredibly pristine and the music itself does not get in the way. This is definitely a CD worth owning.
I knew what I was getting into when I started listening to this CD. I don’t think that there is one song that George Strait has done that I have not liked. He is a legend and he proves it on Fresh Cut Christmas. I thought my favorite country Christmas album was Old Time Christmas by Randy Travis, but this could quickly become my favorite.
Strait’s vocals throughout the album are perfect. From the outset of the opening track Joy to the World, you know just what you are in for. I really can’t say enough about how good his vocals are on this record. Just check out We Three Kings and Silent Night and you will see just what Im talking about.
Now, don’t get me wrong. Yes, I am touting the flag for this record, but bear in mind that I do hold two grudges against it. For starters, the entire CD is only 26 minutes long. Second, you can only buy this CD at Hallmark Gold Crown Stores, which means that you have to buy three greeting cards in order to be able to purchase it, and even after that it is still $7.95. Not to mention the fact that the greeting cards will probably run around $5 a piece.
All in all, it is a solid CD, full of great, old fashioned Christmas country. If you can stream it online, then please do. If you want to own it, then be prepared to shell out around $30 for it, including the greeting cards.
