My Super Ex-Girlfriend By: Karen Swanson |

How amazing do you think it would be to date a superhero? Just ask Matt Saunders, and he’ll tell you it’s not all it’s cracked up to be!
My Super Ex-Girlfriend is a film about a lonely man, named Matt Saunders (Luke Wilson), looking for love. When he spots mousy, yet subtly sexy Jenny Jones (Uma Thurman) on the subway, he decides to take a chance. After convincing Jenny to go on a couple dates with him, things really start to heat up. After a while Matt notices that Jenny is a bit distant and quite neurotic, and he wonders if the relationship is worth the trouble.
After several strange incidents, Jenny decides to reveal herself for the superhero she is—G-Girl. Noted as the city’s savior and superstar, G-Girl is not only popular throughout the world, she is gorgeous! Unable to believe his luck, Matt enjoys the perks that come with dating someone who can fly and move at super-fast speeds. It seems like the relationship will last, but we all know it’s not going to (as per the title of the film, obviously).
Things start getting pretty friendly at the office between Matt and his gal pal Hanna (Anna Faris). Their chemistry is undeniable, and we can see that from their first scene together. It doesn’t take long for Jenny to show her jealousy in violent, crazy ways when it comes to sweet Hannah. After careful thinking, Matt decides that maybe it’s better to end things with Jenny and start up a new relationship with Hannah. Big mistake! Jenny doesn’t handle the news too well.
What follows is a series of goofy events that will teach anyone to never break the heart of someone with superpowers. Rather than suffering the small inconveniences that come with breaking off a relationship, Matt is forced to live in fear, unknowing of what Jenny might do to him next.
Lest I forget to tell you about the super villain, Bedlam, in this movie played by the wonderfully fantastic comedian, Eddie Izzard. Out to drain Jenny of her powers, Bedlam attempts to recruit Matt to help aid him in his endeavor. The results are humorous and will amuse you.
My Super Ex-Girlfriend is a cute movie suitable for a date, or a rainy day. It’s predictable and goofy. I won’t shout about this cheesetastic film, but I also refuse to pan it. When the movie ends you’ll have a smile on your face, and that makes it worth watching. My Super Ex-Girlfriend swoops in at record speeds with 3 ¾ out of 5 mysterious meteorites. |
